How it works

Renting heavy iron, without the runaround

From first search to machine-on-site, here's exactly what happens — and what it costs.

Step by step

The renter journey

1

Create a verified account

Business verification, a soft annual credit check, and your certificate of insurance upload — usually approved in under 24 hours. One-time setup.

2

Search near your jobsite

Filter by category, make, model, attachments, machine hours, year and operating weight. Book up to two weeks ahead.

3

Build one order, many owners

Need a dozer from one yard and a roller from another? Add both to a single order and check out once.

4

Get your quote

Transport estimate in about 30 minutes; a firm all-in quote within 24 hours. Pay by ACH or card within 72 hours to lock it in.

5

Delivery, tracked

Our managed transport network hauls to your site with SMS and email tracking. Arrival photos document condition.

6

Work, extend, or return

Billing recurs every 28 days until you release the machine. Return inspection closes out the rental — disputes are settled by the photo record.

Pricing, plainly

What you pay and why it's less

Owners set base rates on machines that would otherwise sit idle — that's why rates run well below national rental-house pricing, often by 40%.

  • Owner's rate — quoted per week or per 28-day period. One-week minimum.
  • 5% renter service fee — covers managed logistics, inspections, and support.
  • Transport — quoted for your exact haul at checkout and brokered by Freight Broker Group LLC (movingdirt.com), our FMCSA-registered freight brokerage; owner delivery and self-pickup options can lower it.
  • Usage allowance — 45 hours/week, 180 hours/month included; overage billed pro-rata so weekend-warriors never subsidize double shifts.

Trust & protection

Built so neither side gets burned

  • Four-stage photo inspections at every handoff — before departure, on arrival, at rental end, and on return.
  • Damage protection to $500k per rental, with a clear deductible structure instead of finger-pointing.
  • GPS on every machine, with satellite backup for remote sites.
  • Verified businesses only — both renters and owners are vetted before the first transaction.
FAQ

Renter questions, answered

What insurance do I need to rent?

Commercial general liability coverage at $1M per occurrence / $2M aggregate. You upload your certificate of insurance once at account setup; a single blanket COI covers your rentals.

How is the rental billed?

Billing recurs every 28 days from first delivery, with a one-week minimum. Usage is capped at 45 hrs/week and 180 hrs/month; extra hours are billed pro-rata. Excessive wear to tires, undercarriage or ground-engaging tools may be billed separately.

Who's responsible for maintenance?

Daily checks and fluids are on you while the machine is in your care. Scheduled preventive service (~every 250 hours) is coordinated through Napsteer, so long rentals don't turn into wrench time.

What if the machine breaks down?

Report it through the app. Mechanical failures not caused by misuse are the owner's responsibility, and we'll coordinate repair or a replacement machine to keep your job moving.

Can I pick the machine up myself?

Yes, with proof of hauling insurance. Most renters use our managed transport — estimate in ~30 minutes, firm quote in 24 hours, tracked door to door.

How far ahead can I book?

Up to two weeks in advance. For longer-range planning, message the owner to arrange availability.

Can I buy a machine I'm renting?

If the owner has listed it as rent-to-own, 80% of the rent you've paid over a 1–6 month window credits toward the purchase price.
