The best Midwest datapoint we have: a Toledo, Ohio dozer benchmark at $810/day, $2,238/week, $6,346/month — roughly 16% below the national average. If you are quoted well above that for comparable iron in Ohio, shop harder.
Supply. The dirt-work season in Ohio, Indiana and Kentucky compresses utilization into roughly April–November, which means an unusual number of dozers sit parked in contractor yards for weeks at a time even in season — and all winter out of it. Every parked machine still makes its finance payment. Owners who list idle dozers peer-to-peer can undercut chain pricing substantially and still come out well ahead of zero.
That winter-idle math is also the opportunity if you own dozers: a machine that parks from November to March can cover its own payments renting to site-prep and demolition crews who work year-round.
Demand is not evenly spread. The Columbus–New Albany corridor (data center construction), the $4.4B Brent Spence Bridge corridor at Cincinnati–Covington, and the Indianapolis metro are pulling equipment hard in 2026. Book earlier and expect firmer pricing near those corridors; look one county out for better rates and pay the transport delta instead.
